Re: Teenager Hanged Himself from a Huge Monument Cross

3 February 2020. Investigators have established the identity of the deceased man, whose body was found on a memorial cross near a car market in Belgorod. He turned out to be an 18-year-old resident of Stary Oskol.(Старого Оскола)

According to the Investigative Committee, the young man studied at the Belgorod Industrial College.

The body of the deceased and his personal belongings have now been examined. The cause of the student's death is being determined by forensic experts.

The memorial cross on Belaya Gora, erected in honor of the soldiers who died in the Battle of Kursk, is visible from afar.

Before his death, he recorded a video and left it on his phone. According to the photographs that the channel has, the guy had a large tattoo on his body that read "Burn my body when I die."

Most of Skutov's acquaintances say they did not notice anything unusual in his behavior, but according to Kholod, the student had been preparing for suicide for at least a week and told an acquaintance about his plans.

On the night of February 3, 18-year-old student Yegor Skutov came to the building of the Belgorod Industrial College, where he was a third-year student. A couple of dozen meters away, at a construction site surrounded by a metal fence, he took out a can of black paint and wrote on it the inscription: "I love you all." At the end, Skutov drew a large heart. In the center of this heart, he attached his photo, which he cut out of his passport with scissors.

In the morning, the student was found hanged on a memorial cross on Belaya Gora, four kilometers from the college.

Around midnight he posted a farewell video on his VKontakte page. In this video, according to Sergei, Yegor asked not to blame anyone for his death. This is confirmed by a source familiar with the case in the regional UMVD for Kholod.

The video, says Sergei, was twenty minutes long: in it, Skutov did not give a clear explanation for his decision, but spoke "about what he had come to in this life", discussed "true love" that "a rare person" receives, and that "you can't trust anyone but yourself". Now the video is only at the disposal of investigators; Skutov's page, on which it was posted, was deleted by them in the morning. This information is confirmed by law enforcement officers.

Around eight in the morning, police officers were already working on Belaya Gora. The air smelled of incense — a service was underway at the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity, located near the cross.

It had recently rained, and the area was covered in sticky chalk mud. At nine o'clock, one of the operatives climbed onto the cross and cut the rope tied to the crossbar; the body fell to the ground.

The video of this moment was shared on social media that same day and caused indignant comments: some wrote that the body's bones could have been broken, others — that it was "pig-like."

Egor Skutov was born in 2001. He graduated from the Orthodox Gymnasium No. 38 named after Alexander Nevsky in Stary Oskol. During his school years, Skutov played basketball and competed for the gymnasium and the Yunost sports school.

One of the school teachers told Kholod that she remembers Yegor as a "sunny and kind boy" who enjoyed studying and going to church, "he was very life-loving." According to her, his mother, who works as a teacher at the same school, raised him alone, and they had a "warm" relationship. Yegor was her only child. "This act is a real shock," she said, adding that she considers the circumstances of what happened strange.

After graduating from high school in 2017, Egor Skutov entered the Belgorod Industrial College on a state-funded place, where he began studying to be a welder. At the same time, he became interested in music and began recording rap under the pseudonym Skutik. In 2018, Skutov released his first album . “I would like to leave beautifully, just like Morgan Freeman, but I have something to lose, this is life, not movies,” he raps in one of the tracks. In another song, he compares himself to Kurt Cobain: “Something broke in his skull, after that it was somehow awkward to live.”

In addition, Skutov continued to play basketball and became one of the best players in the BIK (Belgorod Industrial College) student team. He was the tallest player in the team and played center. On February 2, Skutov took part in his last game: BIK played against BelGAU that day — and won by a large margin.

Skutov's classmates say they did not notice anything special in his behavior. "He was a normal guy, sociable, kind, if you asked him for something, he would help without any problems," says Matvey ( name changed ), who studied with him. "He was cheerful, wrote his own songs, performed them, was a creative guy. He studied well, was an athlete. Nothing foreshadowed trouble." According to Matvey, Skutov recently broke up with his girlfriend, but did not worry about it. "In the years that I knew him, he never worried about girls," the student explains.

Matvey recalls that a few days before the incident, Yegor showed his classmates a fresh tattoo — the phrase “Burn my body when I die” inked in black on his chest and stomach — but they didn’t see anything strange about it.

Other classmates of Skutov note that they had little contact with him, and say only that he was kind. At the same time, no one calls him a believer - on the contrary, the student's acquaintances believe that he was hardly religious.

Of his classmates, according to the students, Skutov most often communicated with Danil Shiryaev, who is also into rap. Shiryaev declined to comment. Outside of college, Skutov communicated with Dmitry Lutsev, who was not only his close friend, but also a co-author of his first tracks. Lutsev explained that he cannot comment, since he is under a non-disclosure agreement. The college administration declined to talk about Skutov.

Skutov's ex-girlfriend Anna told Kholod that she had not spoken to him for almost two months; the last time they spoke was on December 10 last year. She does not know what prompted his decision to commit suicide. According to her, he never spoke of such an intention in her presence. Anna confirms that Yegor was not very upset about the end of their relationship. "We broke up normally. We realized that we had fallen out of love with each other," she explains.

At the same time, according to a Kholod source in law enforcement, one of Skutov’s friends told investigators that, in his opinion, Yegor had mental problems: he allegedly said that some people maintain a “mental connection” with him, with whom he “not in reality” communicates about the afterlife.

Skutov's friend Sergei, who has known him for several years, says that he and Yegor have rarely communicated lately. When Yegor called him unexpectedly a week ago, he "didn't even recognize him right away." Nevertheless, they got to talking. "Our conversations are usually peculiar - well, conspiracy theories, secret government, Freemasons..." Sergei lists. "Occultism, esotericism, the meaning of life."

This was the case this time: Skutov, he says, brought up reincarnation, which they both believed in. “When our conversation turned to death, the reincarnation of the soul, he said that he no longer believed in karma, [and that] suicide could ‘roll you back’ karmically, and in the next life you would be a less developed being,” he says. “Egor put forward an interesting theory that karma only exists for those who believe in it, and that if he killed himself, he would only speed up the moment of his reincarnation into the next life. It’s somewhat reminiscent of The Matrix. These were the first warning signs of what was to come.”

Later, Egor called Sergey several more times, and on the evening before February 3, he told him directly that he was going to commit suicide. Sergey says that he tried to “offer him an alternative” and explain that he “still had a lot to try during this incarnation”: for example, trying to become a successful rapper or a famous basketball player. “[I said] that all doors were open to him. But he stood his ground,” he recalls.

Sergey claims that he did not hear despair in Skutov's words: "Egor spoke like a happy man. He said that this week was the best in his life. Because he behaved the way he wanted, he was completely relaxed." For example, according to Sergey, after a basketball game, a friend told him on the phone that he "was very brazen in his communication with the judges and the participants on the other side." "At every timeout, he ran out to smoke - and smoked like it was his last. He said that it was a good game - and they won," he recounts Skutov's words.

As for Yegor's tattoo, it, too, according to Sergey, was connected with the deceased's theory of reincarnation. "This is solely to speed up the transition process, from his point of view. Because when a person is buried in the ground, his ethereal body remains here for a long time. When a person is burned, he, so to speak, leaves this world faster," he explains the deceased's logic.

Sergey emphasizes that Skutov was neither a “suicidal teenager who was bullied at school, abandoned by his girlfriend, and unloved by his parents,” nor a “Satanist,” nor a “victim of pedophile priests,” as they write on social networks. But he himself does not know the real reasons for his actions. “There is no rational explanation for this, it does not fit into the usual framework. Perhaps his psyche was already shaken, I cannot know, I have not seen him for a long time,” he reasons. “Perhaps he was fed up with everything, he was tired, and, using this theory that there is no difference between this life and the next, he simply decided to leave.” At the same time, Skutov did not want to be “searched for for months” in the forest and decided to “leave beautifully,” says Sergey. “Yesterday he repeatedly mentioned that it would be noisy, that some kind of inspection from Vladimir Vladimirovich himself was supposed to come, and that people would talk about it,” he recalls.

Sergei didn’t tell anyone that Yegor was planning suicide. “Why didn’t I tell anyone? It would have only provoked him even more. He was serious, I wasn’t going to interfere with him in any way,” he says. “On one hand, it’s indifference, but on the other… It wouldn’t have changed anything anyway, he would have done what he had planned.”

The Russian Orthodox Church has already reported that the memorial cross on Belaya Gora will be re-consecrated due to the “desecration” that occurred. “There is a canon: when a holy place is desecrated, it is re-consecrated. After the recent events, incomprehensible and unpleasant comments appeared on the Internet that the cross should be torn down, but no one is going to do this. The cross was erected in memory of the fallen and it will stand,” said the head of the Protocol Service of the Belgorod Diocese, Fyodor Klyuiko, calling the re-consecration “an absolutely normal procedure.”

I translate his tattoo as "I support Moe, Ren, and Stimpy".

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure about this.
