Re: Teenager Dies Being Electrocuted in Internet Cafe
I hate to be *that* guy, but... Regardless of whether or not China has good samaritans or not, I think this would have happened almost anywhere. Most times, electricity is a silent killer. The only sound any of this probably made was the the actual spark you see in the video. Even with that, who's going to think, "Oh, no! Someone's being electrocuted!" while they're in a cafe? That's probably the farthest thing from anyone's mind. There's been many a times that I, and I'm sure everyone here, has been right in the vicinity of something that happened and had no idea what was going on until it was over. It happens. Doesn't make us all bad people, we just weren't aware. |

Re: Teenager Dies Being Electrocuted in Internet Cafe
it looks like he had all the help he could get...when electricity is shocking someone like that the last thing you need is more people near it. It looked like his buddy tried...but on top of probably being very confused and shocked it is hard to know what to do in that situation especially when you know touching the person could get you killed. It is also sad because it is pretty obvious he did not die right away...that was like a low powered electric chair death sentence. I would guess his heart stopped from electrical interference. For anyone curious what to do...you need to use some sort of cloth, rubber, or wood (dry only of course) object to pull them away from, knock them over (in case of being shocked while standing for instance), or knock the electric source away from the body. |

Re: Teenager Dies Being Electrocuted in Internet Cafe
Electricity only travels to the shortest path it can from the source to the ground (be that the actual ground or some other object that is connected to the ground making the electricity travel through your body to reach it). In his case it looked like the electrical short that shocked him was at his feet where his phone was plugged in. It was likely traveling through his feet and up his legs then out through the chair. This would also explain why it didn't stop after his friend (a smart move I might add) knocked the phone out of his hand assuming it was the source.

Re: Teenager Dies Being Electrocuted in Internet Cafe
No edit equals mega multi post...apologies Here is the story apparently: Last Friday night, an 18-year-old factory worker named Xiong Xuan was killed in a freak accident as he attempted to unplug his mobile phone cable from a computer at an internet cafe in Wuhan. According a report by the Chutian Metropolis Daily, Xiong's brother was in the seat beside him when the accident happened. He told reporters that Xiong said that he was going to get some food and reached down to take his cell phone with him. "When he tried to pull the cord out, he got shocked and cried out. Then he touched it again and his foot hit the steel pipe underneath the desk," his brother explained. He could only watch as his brother fell limp to the ground and started foaming at the mouth. An ambulance arrived to rush Xiong to the hospital, but he was pronounced dead on the way. An investigation is underway into the tragic incident, and the internet cafe has had its license suspended. |
