Teenager Dies After Backflip Stunt Goes Wrong
An Indian teenager has injured himself last week after attempting a backflip stunt to post on social media but succumbed to his injuries. The 19 year old K. was admitted to a hospital 8 days ago for injuring his spine attempting a backflip. He was being treated for the severe spinal injuries at Bengaluru’s Victoria Hospital. K. was a performance artist working with an orchestra troop called Ramu Melodies. K. aspired to take part in dance reality shows and showcase his talent to the world. K’s Brother-in-law alleged that K. was attempting the backflip stunt at the behest of his friends and that K. did not even have a smart phone. His friend was recording the stunt to upload on social media. Doctors said he sustained extensive damage to his spinal cord affecting a range of sensory and motor functions. This can often lead to permanent disablement. However, several deaths have been reported in the recent past which occurred during attempting such stunts. Teenagers are advised to exercise caution while parents and teachers counsel the younger generation of the consequences of such acts for the sake of popularity on social media. |
