Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida
In the video where the guys are inspecting the ride the guy sitting down with the white hair can be heard saying "It doesn't look good Bobby.". It sounds like they're referring to the chest brace as he's moving it down with his arm.

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida
New report was released from an engineering firm (Quest something) that the ride had been modified. They don't know when or by whom yet, but they allege both Seats 1 and 2 - kid was in Seat 1 - had its prox sensor modified to bypass safety features. Essentially, the ride is designed with an average 3.33" gap between the crotch piece of the seat (the seat "horn") and the bottom of the chest restraint. These two seats allowed a roughly 7.2" gap due to the prox sensor adjustment. For anyone who doesn't know what that means, essentially the machine will not run unless the safety control system indicates everything is safe. The proximity sensor adjustment made the safety control system indicate everything was safe with a ~7" clearance. They then added that with the forces applied with the weight of the rider, the G-forces on descent, etc., would allow this to expand to about 10". My takeaway is that this is probably not the operator's fault (meaning the guy on site who actually pushed the start button). I imagine a park with these sorts of resources have an actual maintenance department... Need to find who made the modification or who authorized the modification. |

I agree. I’m certainly no mechanic-they had pics in the article (too tarded to link) and it looked like a bolt in a position that was a good inch over from the side it would secure in. My best guess is someone modified them to accommodate heavier people OR they lessened over time. The article said 2 seats had these modifications. The one Tyre was on and another.

I ran into a few stories now that they're saying that the ride operators had a slightly altered the seat belt so he could fit on it because they didn't want to deny him the ride the ride

Oh wow. I hadn't actually *actively* followed it so I wasn't aware of that yet. Company best pray hard AF that those are false claims. That sort of willful bypassing to accommodate outside of the safety range, that'll take a case from negligence to recklessness in a heartbeat. Payout for that.... fuck, at LEAST 7 figures, probably 8. |
