Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida
Regarding the 2nd Video The victim is 14 years old, 6’5” and 340 lbs. His name is There is no seatbelt connecting the horn on the seat to the shoulder restraint. All other drop rides have this feature. Additionally, the ride should tilt the riders at the bottom to prevent overwhelming g-forces upon stopping. This was not featured on this ride either. Training of the crew operating the ride was obviously not adequate, as the operators did not check the victim’s harness as well. Safety of the riders is directly the operator’s responsibility. Rider size and weight is another direct contribution to this death. To conclude, this was a fatal combination. Ride design, Poor operator training and procedure, and the height and weight of this victim killed him, The relevant time stamps on the 2nd video are as follows: -3:50 The victim was the furthest on the left. Look at his harness. It is not at a right angle just like the other riders’ harnesses. It is not latched down at all. -3:38 The operator checks one of the harnesses, but not the victim’s -3:28 Operator checks another harness, but the victim’s is still not checked and is not flush down with the harness around the victim. -3:25 to –3:18 Riders question the operator about seatbelts, noting there are none. -3:03 Victim is not secured in the seat and appears too large to fit in the seat. -0:52 Victim is sliding out of the seat. -0:51 Victim fully flies out of the seat. -0:50 Victim hits the ground. -0:13 2nd operator arrives on the screen. -0:09 Operator reiterates that he checked the victim’s harness. -0:082nd operator asks if the operator at that section checked his harness. He lied. He did not check the victim’s harness. What does this add up to? The tragic death of a 14-year-old child, who was a great high school football player, got good grades, and was never in trouble. He will be missed. AND, a big fat lawsuit! This should never happen again, and there needs to be consequences for this catastrophic failure. |

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida
The specs. Granted, kid would probably die by 18 of a heart attack (ranges vary from 330-350) thanks to the parents living vicariously and probably already spending the NFL checks but... ...100% never should have been on this ride. Operators too skittish to rock the boat and call him off for his size, too lazy to check the harness and even if it was clicked, clearly see the two center points don't come near enough. Avoidable all the way around. Incoming check - just not from the NFL. |

I don't mean to shit on the family but how can you allow your own kid to reach 340 pounds at any age let alone 14. The parents are extremely negligent and irresponsible

I'm pretty sure that the poor kid couldn't even get it to secure properly in the first place; he was way too big for that ride.
