Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida

first aid is useless here, nobody can survive that height and speed, the trauma would be extremely massive , if you did survive it somehow youre life is going to be very shitty with massive breaks everywhere not to mention the brain damage

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida

Is that the actual seat? Looks like they disassembled it for the investigation. At first I thought maybe the bottom of the seat broke under his weight….nothing would have been holding him in then.

I wonder if they gave him his money back? That would be a nice gesture...

Well, you can see the control panel lights at the ride operator's station, and they are all green. So I wonder what happened?

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida

WTF!

No one there was even trying to provide aid. The guy on his phone just stood there for almost 30 seconds before crouching down and doing...I've got no fucking clue.

Check for vitals. Perform a visual assessment. F'ing well ask if there's a doctor or nurse on the bloody ride?

I guess the only thing they did right was to not try to move him.

And the crew?

Immediately in cover our ass mode.

Given the velocity, the kid was probably in bad shape, and the injuries may be mortal, but slim chance becomes no chance right quick when people just do sweet F-all.

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida

where the hell were the parents?
He was actually visiting from out of state, and staying with family friends in Orlando, and they are the ones who took him to the park, with their kids as well.

Well, according to OSHA in the U.S. 75% of falls, from a height greater than 13 feet, are instantly fatal and non-survivable. So there wasn't anything they realistically could have done. I don't know what the statistic are for a fall from 40 feet, but I would guess the survival rate is close to, or at, 0.

Re: Teenage Boy Killed by Drop Tower in Orlando, Florida

I'm pretty sure I've seen some rides here in Germany with a visual indicator (light) above the seat that indicates correct closure - they probably can't start the ride if not all are closed correctly - but even if not, a visual cue at least would be a start.
You can hear the operator telling the other employee, “The light was on (or off, can’t tell exactly),” so obviously this ride had a visual indicator like you speak of.
