Look at the angle of the sun, it looks to have been right in the gunmans eyes. Maybe he thought the cameraman was armed! Who knows? None of us will ever know unless someone can clean up the footage and better identify the shooter.

I agree. I'm afraid that with this lossy compressed version of the video, it'll be hard to say even whether the shooter was male or female.
Also the point about the Sun blinding him is a very very good question, in my opinion.

While the Sun looks to be inhis eyes, thre's that structure above, casting a shadow, working as sunshade for his eyes: watch the video from sec. 41:00 to 44:00.
The man could see something, but impossible to say what.
Also, interesting the way the man takes the weapon: at first glance I'd say rifle due to his hands' position (and no weapons are visible), but at the last frame his hands looks to be in two hand grip position.
I've extracted 12 frames from the relevant part of the video, and circled the frame in which he seems to actually handle something:

The shot can be heard about two seconds after the last frame.

Sadly, it's just a bunch of pixels: we can't see whether the shooter was wearing some belt or any military insigna, his face was obscured by the shadow, the cameraman was shaking his hand.
I don't know if it's staged or not: sadly, everything in the video makes sense, but i hope it's staged.

July 1, Homs, Syria. A protester while monitorizing protest at the time; shot by a syrian soldier. Before he was shot; he is saying; "Somebody is shooting people in Karm al-Sam with no reason." After a while a man in green dress appeared and shot him. After being shot he preyed and screamed for help. Reporters say he died.

You should have ducked ya moron....and what kind of camera are was he using anyway...mine is digital camcorder with a telephoto lens that from the distance would look like aiming a small firearm...i.e I sure as fuck wouldn't use it in the middle of a warzone that has snipers doin' the old 9 to 5 next fuckin' door, you dipstick.
Mind you if this was a country that the coalition could kick the arse out of and gain a little bit of oil then this would be the very reason for sending in the tanks and jets...as it is thes vids are being "analysed" with the mantra footnote that it is "uncorroborated" or "unverified" or some other get out clause that can be used to veil the fact that Syrian armed forces are not to be fucked with...whatever the Human cost..{a bit like N Korea and China then eh?}
