First of, it's not the cables, it's his skin that snaps.
Well, that man right there was a aging Allan Faulkner, pretty much a pioneer within suspension. He invented several of the suspension forms we used today, as well as the modern suspension hooks.
He did survive, there was a safety cusion under him, so the aftermath of the fall is pretty boring.
On these kind of conventions, the "big names" often suspend several times a day, and does some pretty elaborate stuff while they're up there.This happened on the final show of the convention, and he had been suspending from the same hooks several times a day, for three days.
Failing suspensions have nothing to do with weight at all, it has more to do with the number of hooks and your skins elasticity. Allan faulkner is now, as mentioned, getting older and losing elasticity in his skin, so he can no longer do the same as he could when he was younger, without taking a rest.
In other words, aging + suspension + several elaborate suspension shows = stupidity.
But that right there is the reason Allan is the pioneer in this - he repeatadly puts his own ass(sometimes literally) on the line to gain knowledge and spread the word.
