A superbike rider, identified as João E., 57, died after falling during a race in the SuperSport 400cc Escola category in Interlagos, São Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday afternoon (30).

According to the organizers, João collided with another competitor and hit the outer wall of the main straight with great force, crossing the track unconscious and away from his bike.

João was attended to by the championship's rescue team in an ICU ambulance, but died in the emergency room at the racetrack.

João is the second motorcyclist to die at the Interlagos circuit this year, after a nine-year-old Argentinian boy, and he is the seventh to have died in the last seven years.

There's not much else on the web about him. At 57, I was curious if racing was something he was just starting to pursue after retiring from something else. RIP.

Seems like there should have been a safety barrier, or gate of some kind, covering that gap to avoid this exact situation.

He died doing what he loved to do. These kinds of accidents happen so fast the person has little time to react and less time to ponder his regrets. It was a good life until it wasn’t.
