I was wondering the same thing, and I have to assume it's either A) they don't think they'll go through with it, or B) it's planned and they are supposed to put them out quickly, but the person runs off.

That seemed to be the case in a couple of the videos, anyway. In several of them there were tubs or buckets of water just laying around. One of them for sure was a definite protest, but for some reason that one actually stopped, dropped and rolled away from the scene.

Like most other people here, I think being burned alive is one of the worst ways you can possibly go and I can never really understand how someone would choose that method. I'm assuming the vast majority of people who have set themselves on fire are severely mentally ill, have never seen someone on fire before, or both.

Every single person on this video has something in common. After approx 1 to 2 seconds, they are full of regret. When the unbearable pain consumes their entire body, they're wishing they had thought this out a little better.
