Mehmet Özkaya (39), father of two, set himself on fire after a group of debt enforcement officers arrived at his shop because of his TL30k (€15k) debt. The man did not hesitate to cover himself with gasoline and flick the lighter…
The 39-year-old snack-shop owner, resident of Antalya’s Alanya town, resisted to paying his TL30k debt, and debt enforcers visited his shop to determine the value of his goods. Özkaya did not let the officers to enter the shop, and set himself on fire upon their determination.
Fire-fighters and police managed to extinguish the fire, and take the shop owner to a hospital with an ambulance.
This is not the man’s first attempt of killing himself as it is reported that he has attempted suicide a while ago by swallowing pesticides.
