dude hit the first crossbuck after he let go or fell or whatever

By hitting that crossarm/brace on the way down, he slowed his fall.

Why do folks bring their kids to watch that as there's a big chance he will fall and then when he does they shield of the sighting for their children. Could have walked away from the scene in an earlier stage me thinks.

Guess my next question is why are there kids there? Is this a family event in Mexico? Must be a cultural thing.
