Sheriff's officials say a 23-year-old man was fatally shot by a deputy in Camarillo after he came at the deputy while armed with a knife repeatedly saying, "kill me."

It happened shortly before noon Wednesday on Carmen Drive north of Daily Drive.

Sheriff Geoff Dean told reporters that the incident actually began when the man took a wireless phone from a nearby business and he called 911 to say a crime was about to be committed and he wanted to die.

Dean said that a deputy responded and the man came up to the patrol car and tried to open the door.

The deputy told the man to back up and when the deputy exited the patrol car the man produced a large knife and came at the deputy repeatedly saying "kill me."

Dean said that the deputy backed up several times telling the man to stop and get down on the ground and at one point wanted to use his Taser but the man continued to advance on the deputy and the deputy then used his gun and shot the man several times.

The man was taken to the trauma center at Los Robles Medical Center in Thousand Oaks where he died.

The deputy suffered some scrapes and bruises in the altercation.

Too much of a pussy to off himself, and then he chooses such a busy intersection to do this. Tons of people at risk for crossfire.

I can't stand the majority of police officers but I'm glad this was a professional encounter and I hope the he doesn't blame himself for making a choice that was in the best interest of the community.

That was the cops stupidity for shooting with his pistol in such a crowded area. He had ample time to draw and aim his taser, but chose to use lethal force instead.

By opening fire in a crowded area, with innocent people behind his target that could be hit by stray bullets? For not using his taser, which he had plenty of time to draw and use, which would've allowed the person to get treatment instead of a funeral? That's not professionalism, that's stupidity and slow thought process.

The Cops use only the tools ,training and rules we provide. Until they have viable alternatives , this will continue to be justified and reasonable .

100% justified, the punk wouldn't back off and was given plenty of opportunity to do so.

Good thing he was white because we wouldn't hear the end of it otherwise.
