Well they aren't "stinky" because of the climate. That's just ridiculous. There are plenty of very hot climates around the world that do not have stench problems. India has a horrific stench problem. It's sewage. There is a very large portion of India that still has no under ground sewer system or running water. That makes it difficult to bathe, but not only that, it makes removal of daily sewage nearly impossible. The lower class still piss and shit in the streets and many of them dump their "chamber pot" out the window in to the streets. It's so common place that many of them don't even view sewage as something to avoid. There are gold-panners that sift through the puddles of piss and shit in the streets looking for tiny fragments of gold that fall in to the streets from the jewellery repairs shops. It's disgusting. But it's not a problem that's exclusive to India. Many of the old countries have large cities without sewer infrastructure.

I backpacked around India twice and they do have BO but I am sure you have seen them bathing at any water fixture esp fire hydrants. They cannot afford deodorant,..I found the Indian people to be very nice and protective of me as I was a female alone traveling..I have never met a rude Indian..You may get ripped off 5-20 ru but when you think about it that is only a few cents and it is a lot to them so I never said anything..Unless it was over a dollar US.I LOVE INDIA IT IS A BOMBARDMENT ON ONES SENSES..
