NEVER work under anything hydraulically powered without a set guard! They had the ram that lifts the bed either disconnected or a hose blew. When there's no pressure or not enough pressure in the lines then this is what happens. Nothing left to keep the ram from retracting because of the weight against it.

I bet there was some safety catch engaged. Which is why they felt it safe to remove the prop. It just either wasn't engaged properly or it gave out.
