lol, paramedics wear doctor coats where ever this is Whatever this thing is that the guy was driving through, it looks cool and I'd like to drive on it. Just not on a bike. |

Re: Speeding Biker Crashes Into Cement Barrier
I assume the photographer was set up to video the rider as he blasted though the tunnel curve? Unfortunately, the video won't be good for the motorcycle commercial they were working on. That guy was NOT an experienced rider. He already has his left leg down, trying to counteract turn forces. If he had had any training, he would have known to hunch down and push steer (countersteer) the bike back into it's proper groove. Wonder if he was filming a video to put on his social media, about his new bike? |

That looked like fun until the very end. I hope he wasn't seriously hurt.

Re: Speeding Biker Crashes Into Cement Barrier
My guess is he tried do reduce speed using only the rear brake, takes too long to stop. If the bike has ABS, you can full press the front brake and it won't lock the wheel. My first (and only) fall on a motorbike was exactly like this, went too fast on a curve, tried to reduce with the rear brake and fell on the sidewalk. Luckly, I wasn't speeding and only had a minor scratch on left arm. Now I can afford a car and plan to never ride a bike again. |

Re: Speeding Biker Crashes Into Cement Barrier
Got in to the corner carrying too much speed, panicked, stopped trying to turn the bike, and looked for a soft spot to land - which there was none. Classic target fixation - by looking at the guardrail instead of where he wanted to go, he aimed right for it. The foot off the peg was a response to two different panic stimuli - the bike wasn't doing what he wanted, so he went into weight shift mode to try and get the bike to turn - and, by putting his foot down, he was signaling to himself that he was ready for the dismount. Unfortunately, he was nowhere near that point. I always told my students that, should they get into a situation like that, don't panic (hard to do without training) and redouble your efforts to finish the turn. the bike was more than capable of negotiating that turn at that speed. The weak point was the rider. |
