Re: South Korea - 140+ People Dead In Stampede During Halloween Celebration
Having to unfortunately been a member of the crowd of Astroworld Festival, I can only remember the feeling, nothing quite like being helpless in a sea of people with no exit but death.

Re: South Korea - 140+ People Dead In Stampede During Halloween Celebration
I have been in a crowd like the before. I am female, 5'2" so not only was I being crushed, I couldn't get any fresh air as everyone around me is taller than me. I was lifted OFF the ground and moved by the crowd for minutes at a time - My feet were not touching the ground. My feet were barely touching the ground the other times. It's a completely and utterly helpless feeling.. there is quite literally NOTHING you can do and you are being moved at will as you are being crushed. I was actually going DOWN to the ground (and my death!) because someone stepped on the back of my leg at the calf muscle -- when suddenly I had a knight in shining armor, a great big HUGE guy who was wearing a turban (sikh). He was suddenly next to me and he quite easily lifted me up onto my feet. I remember that he was incredibly tall and the turban made him seem even taller. Honestly, Had it not been for him, I would have been trampled. And those trampling me wouldn't be able to help it. It's horrible. This Sikh fellow -- He honestly saved my life. He said, I got you, hang on to me and then as the crowd surged forward, he saved my life again by hoisting me up onto the hood of a car which a bunch of other people and that's where I stood for a long time until the crowd dissipated. |

If anyone finds out who the celebrity was, I can only imagine what they must be feeling in the wake of all the people crushed to see them. There has to be some heavy but terrible guilt being felt by that person, even though they were just being themselves. Yeesh. Fuck.

And according to the news, the vast majority of those killed in this Korean incident are women, most likely due to their smaller stature.

Re: South Korea - 140+ People Dead In Stampede During Halloween Celebration
Yes and I believe it! I weigh 110-115 pounds and that's what I weighed at the time (I know this because my weight has been in that constant range since I was about 16 year old). I was being carried around like a rag doll off my feet by the crowd and suffocated, not only from the crushing, but from everyone being above me and not getting to fresh air. Taller, bigger people have a better chance of not getting trampled.. but god help anyone of any height if they are caught in a choke point. To this day it's the most helpless and completely powerless I have ever felt in my life. |
