A man has been charged in connection with an incident in Barton Street in Gloucester on Monday which led to the street being cordoned off for most of Tuesday.

Esam Dawood, 26, of Barton Street, Gloucester, has been charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Officers from Gloucestershire Constabulary said that a man aged in his 30s remains in Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in a critical but stable condition, after suffering multiple stab wounds.

A second man required hospital treatment for injuries to his arm, but has since been discharged.

People are urged not to share a video showing the "horrendous series of events" which took place last night when a man was stabbed in Barton Street.

A witness filmed the incident on their camera and it has been circulating on social media.

But officers from Gloucestershire Constabulary are urging the public not to view or share the material as it will "now form part of our investigation and prosecution case".

They have also pleaded to the public's sense of humanity.

Senior investigating officer, DCI Neil Smith, said: "Can I please remind you all that this footage depicts the most horrendous series of events, the victims are badly injured and the last thing they or their families need is to have this played out on social media.

"I need this to cease immediately please, just imagine if this was a member of your family. We must show compassion and respect for all involved."
