Have you ever seen a crisis that democrats have not used for political gain Captain Obvious? Democrats are bending over backwards to blame gun control, Republicans and Christians when none of that has a thing to do with this shooting. Did draconian gun control in Paris stop the Muslim terrorists? How often do we hear of Christians yelling "Praise Jesus" before gunning down innocent people? Are the Republicans the ones supporting importing hundreds of thousands of Muslims into the USA? If you don't know the answer to those questions, it's no to each. I understand your argument, but I think what's frustrating for many Americans is the idea that radical Islam is the sole source of mass killings in this country, when the reality is quite the opposite. The threat and danger of extremists absolutely needs to be addressed, and yet only a minute fraction of the rampant killings of innocent people in this country are coming at the hands of said Islamic extremists. Thus, looking just to border and immigration issues and acting like it's a cure-all for safety in this country, while refusing to entertain other measures (like expanding background checks, which can potentially prevent some of the very white, American shooters with histories of mental illness from stockpiling weapons for another school shooting), is seen as almost contradictory. The reality is, both sides need to meet in the middle. Ignoring the threat of extremism is only going to continue the trend of civilians being killed, as will ignoring the current gun violence problem in this country by speaking and acting as if it's confined to immigrants. |
