Skier Nick Zoricic Killed at World Cup Event
The Canadian ski team says Nick Zoricic has died after crashing in a skicross event. The International Ski Federation says he died a result of "severe neurotrama" after crashing into the safety nets after the final jump. Organizers canceled today's World Cup event. "Nick Zoricic fell heavily just before the finish in the round of eight, crashing directly into the safety netting and thereafter lying motionless," FIS said. Zoricic, 29, has raced on the World Cup circuit for more than three years and was eighth in the 2011 World Championships held at Deer Valley, Utah. |

Crazy, it doesnt look like the impact was enough to kill him but i think on his tumble he landed on his neck in a bad way

To be honest, that fall didn't look too bad. I've had harder falls getting out of bed in the morning.

Re: Skier Nick Zoricic Killed at World Cup Event
I've watched this a few times, and I still can't comprehend how that innocuous-looking crash into the safety net was fatal. "As reflected in the crash video currently on youtube, Zoricic missed a pillar featuring advertising and then landed into fencing. While officials have yet to comment to news, the spot of Zoricic's impact appears to be, not just the fencing material, but also its support post. The fencing appears to have been constructed with a support post every few feet, the material of the post still unknown." (from http://news.lalate.com/2012/03/10/ni...safety-debate/) |
