Six Killed, 17 Injured in Shooting at Outdoor Soccer Event
On the night of Sunday, October 12, a group of armed men stormed an outdoor soccer championship taking place on 22nd and Cristóbal Colón streets, in the Cisne 2 sector, Portete district, in southwest Guayaquil, Ecuador leaving a death toll of 6 and 17 got injured. Between six and seven people, each of which was being driven by hooded individuals got off four motorcycles and two pick-up trucks and started shooting. The police collected at least 85 pieces of ballistic evidence corresponding to pistols and rifles. The attackers fired at the crowd gathered at the sporting event , where about 150 people were drinking and celebrating the end of the tournament. At the scene, 47 spent 9-millimeter shell casings, 38 2.23-millimeter shell casings, along with bullets, a cartridge case, and fabric fragments were recovered. Forensic investigators confirmed that the attack involved high-powered firearms, reflecting the intensity of the shooting. Among the identified victims are Óscar L. G. L, 30, and Pastor Enrique V. C, 48, who has a criminal record for homicide. None of the injured have a criminal record. The other deceased have not yet been identified. The bodies were transferred to the Department of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences for legal autopsies. The fifteen injured people, including two teenagers and a minor girl, were taken to different health centers with gunshot wounds in different parts of the body. The alleged perpetrators are members of the Freddy Kruger gang, and two have been arrested. |

If this were the norm at soccer matches, then I’d be much more inclined to actually watch a game. As it is, soccer is barely a step above watching golf or synchronized swimming.

Another pointless shooting. Here in the US we have nut jobs that go on stupid rampage shootings. In Mexico they have the cartels that basically do the same thing only worse. No end to it is there?!  |
