Re: Shotgun Execution of Syrian Army Soldier
I think the keyword here being "was", their friendship fell through after the 1st Gulf War and Saddam was pretty much left to his own device afterwards. I think Saddam, Assad, and all tyrants in the Middle East have got the right idea. They know the true face of its people and it horrified them. They know they have to go to extreme lengths to tame them because the Middle East Arabs will never share the same ideals of civilization that the rest of the world holds. If left to their own device, them Middle East Arabs will often choose the worse form of governance; theocracy. We see the results in the form of ISIS, Al-Qaida, and various other terrorist organizations. Their culture, religion, politics, etc will never allow them a moment's peace. It is always convenient to blame the vague amorphous "West" for interfering with them but as soon as Obama withdraw the troops, the Kurds, Yazidis, Druze, etc all holler for USA intervention. |

Re: Shotgun Execution of Syrian Army Soldier
Perhaps this was more of a failure of naivety from the Obama administration that they could all get along once the tyrants were out of power. Or perhaps Bush just wanted to put the entire region in chaos by booting out Saddam. Dick Cheney made it clear after the 1st Iraq invasion that taking out Sadam would be a huge mistake and lead to chaos, yet Bush did it anyways. Maybe this is all a genius plan from the west so that the region explodes into violence and they get too busy killing each other off to bother the rest of the world. It's just a shame that countless innocent people are suffering so much. The only thing I can say for sure, is that democracy is not for everyone. It's barely holding together in the USA. To think we can drop a few bombs and put a puppet in a rag head region to have democracy bloom is BS. They needed Saddam and Gaddafi and the likes to keep the people oppressed, and happy. What we saw as oppression was their normal. It sure beat the alternative of strict Sharia law where kids are being executed for watching soccer games and everyone that is not radical enough, including Sunni Muslims, are getting decapitated, mutilated and the sorts. |
