Re: Shot at Point Blank W/ Shotgun
I'm curious how many people here have ever shot anything with a shotgun before. I'm going to take a guess that it was 12ga and not a 20. I don't know of ANY worldwide that use 20ga for police duty, 12ga is SO much cheaper , and for the most part an international round. It's hard to say what kind of round it was , most police use either slugs or buckshot (00) , however I don't see any backside penetration. Normally , a slug will penetrate about 3ft or so of a person, 00 will penetrate 10"-14" depending on the range and other factors. It "Could" have been bird shot (6 1/2 , 7 or even 8) , which only penetrates about 3" into a person @ 15yds, but does have a significant amount of pellets, usually in the 500 to 800 range. Police don't normally load anything smaller than 00 buck as past about 15yds it becomes worthless. #7 will almost always fail to penetrate past clothing at a distance of around 25yds or so (and if you're police/military , you never know how far the bad guy will be out). 00 buck is effective easily to 50yds, and can be quite lethal at 100yds if you can manage to hit someone with a spread. As for slugs, the farthest I've killed around 3 deer at 150yds with slugs, and know there's lots of people who have killed them beyond 250yds. Honestly, with any type of shot gun round, outside of rock salt, this guy was done for, whether it be a slug or #8 as it's so close, most types of shot will penetrate far enough to kill a person. As for knock-back , it just doesn't exist outside of nervous reflexes. I've shot PLENTY of deer in my time with 12ga slugs, and most of the time they barely even noticed they were hit unless I hit them in a vital spot that would 'knock' them down by way of breaking bones or severing the spinal cord. Heck, one time I shot a 180lb buck 3 times from about 15yds away, and he managed to make it another 150yds before he ran out of blood. People are quite resilient to taking bullets, and it's NOTHING like in the movies. |
