Not at all. Most of the kids seeking "higher education" that graduated from Doherty Memorial High School (which I attended) went on to Worcester State College (as it was called then, not "University"). Though I never enrolled, I have fond memories of the place. I saw A Clockwork Orange for the first time in the college when their film society showed it in the late 70s. The art students did these stunning and spectacular snow sculptures on the front lawns (one was of a giant Gulliver being tied down by the lilliputians). I begged my parents as a kid to go out of their way and drive by so we could see them. My brother, a talented amateur artist, recently mentioned during our hike on the grounds that they still have a mural of his hanging in the college from the late 1950s/early 1960s. Now we have gangstas and guns there instead of art  Wanted to correct something in my original post: it actually only 1 mile from my home. I walked past it every day as an early teen to go to Chandler Junior High right across the street |
