Brazil, A tour bus missed the curb, pulled off the runway and tumbled into a ditch after driver lost the brakes this morning (12), leaving at least seven dead and 12 wounded. Among the dead is a 1-year-old child.

The Federal Highway Police (PRF) has confirmed the death of six passengers on the scene. One of the wounded died at the Hospital.

The accident happened between the cities of Igarapé and Brumadinho, in the descent of the Serra de Igarapé, towards São Paulo.

The bus left Itabuna, Bahia, at 10am last Saturday (11), bound for São Paulo. Many occupants were merchants who were going to SP to buy clothes.

Pastor Renildo Diécio de Jesus, 43, was traveling on the bus. "It was hopeless. When the driver tried to brake, the reserve driver came in shouting '' My God, my God, '' and people panicked thinking it was a robbery. Those with a belt removed their belts, people got up, but the bus ran faster and soon fell into the ditch, "he said.

Erick Marinho Souza, 19, lost his father in the accident. They were going to spend a month in the house of relatives in São Paulo. "I was traveling on my father's side, but in the middle of the way, a girl asked me to sit in the middle, so that each one had two armchairs and more space. At the time of the accident, my father got up and I only noticed the bus and my father fell over, "he said. "Thank God nothing happened to me, but my father lost his life," he lsaid.

According to the Fire Department, there are reports of fog and the runway being slippery at the time of the accident. There was no collision with another vehicle. The driver would have lost control.

Injured
A 67-year-old woman and a 22-year-old boy were taken to the Betim Regional Hospital. The state of women's health is stable. Already the boy undergoes surgery and his arm was amputated. The unit is awaiting the arrival of four more victims.

The hospital of Emergency Relief John XXIII received 5 victims of the accident, being 4 adults and one child of 2 years. One adult has been discharged and 3 patients are stable. One patient is in serious condition.

- 18 victims in total
- 7 fatalities (6 adults and a 1-year-old child died on the spot, one boy died upon admission to the Betim Regional Hospital)
