NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -- A security guard shot and killed a masked robber in New Smyrna Beach Saturday morning.

New Smyrna Beach Police say the masked man walked into the Medicine Shoppe on Dixie Freeway, pulled out a gun, and demanded drugs.

An armed security guard, hired to protect the business, shot and killed the man.
The guard was an Smyrna Beach ex-cop/sheriff's deputy.

The Medicine Shoppe has been robbed two times in the past, once in 2006 and again in 2007. With the recent rash of pharmacy robberies and their own past experiences, they do everything they can to deter robbers.

In addition to hiring security guards, they have also posted a sign reading “We do not stock oxycontin.”

This was New Smyrna Beach’s second pharmacy robbery in a little over a week. So far this year there have been twelve pharmacy robberies in Central Florida.

The suspect have been identified as being Keith Allen Higginbotham.

As with all theives who terrorize innocent people DIE ! That day will live on forever with everyone who was in the store. I love it when the good guys win. No need for a trial or expensive life sentence in prison that the 'people' have to pay for.
