In interested in this argument. I’m not American but my understanding is the “law abiding citizen” with a gun who takes out the baddie is a myth, or at best very rare. Any references you can provide would be interesting. I’m not trolling. I’m intrigued to know if this is the case, because loads of shootings seem to happen in States that also allow concealed carry (let’s face it random shootings are an American-wide fetish) but I never see reports of the baddie getting taken out by law abiding citizens.

Even the USA's own FBI says that DEFENSIVE use of a gun is around 1.7 million times a year.

That includes wielding a gun to deescalate a situation with no shots fired.

You don't see defensive uses on the news because as a legal gun owner you're not going to be that stupid to report it (you'll end up in trouble somehow) and the news doesn't report it.

I was in a small town in California about 6 years ago and a mother shot a school shooter, she took a round as well, and even the local news didn't report on it.
