A 38-year-old parachutist, identified only as Andrei, died when his parachute lines got tangled during a skydive, resulting in him crashing into the ground near Putilovo airfield, Leningrad Oblast, Russia.

Reportedly, Andrei's final skydive was his fourth of the day and his 363rd in total. His main parachute got tangled, and his reserve parachute opened too late - only about thirty metres from the ground. A criminal case has been opened regarding the provision of services that did not meet required safety standards.

Idk much about sky diving, but don't they usually have a reserve chute for when this happens? Or doesn't that work here?

Nightmare for every skydiver. You always hope the reserve chute works in time.

I had pretty much the same thing happen to me on my second skydive ever when I was doing advanced freefall training. Fortunately they show you how to recover from this in ground school before you even go up. You're supposed to twist back & forth until you get enough momentum to start doing 360s & unwind the twist. That technique worked for me even though I did have a tremendous rush of adrenaline going on. Another thing they teach you in ground school is to pull your reserve chute at sufficient altitude for it to open if other methods of recovery aren't working. This guy did neither of those things. It looks like Darwin Award territory to me.
Another thing that really strikes me is that this guy is out having fun skydiving while so many other Ruzzians are executing meat wave after meat wave in Ukraine. It seems emblematic of the privilege of different tiers in that country. No tears lost from me for yet another dead orc.

If you read the whole story, he opened his reserve chute too late, only thirty metres from the ground. No idea why he would do that, probably in a blind panic.
