Russia - Worker Dies at the Mednogorsk copper-sulfuric plant

The investigating authorities of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Orenburg Region, based on the results of checking the circumstances of the death of an employee of Mednogorsk Copper-Sulfur Plant LLC, on April 25, 2021, opened a criminal case on the grounds of a crime under Part 2 of Art. 143 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (violation of labor protection requirements, resulting in the death of a person by negligence).

According to the investigation, on April 24, 2021, at 09:27 a.m., at the section of reduction smelting and converting of the copper-smelting shop of the Mednogorsk Copper-Sulfur Combine Limited Liability Company, located in the city of Mednogorsk, Orenburg Region, a flux hopper collapsed for loading shaft furnaces located above the loading bells, from +17.460 m to 12.0 m.

At the time of the collapse, an employee of the plant was at the loading point - a 24-year-old batch loader.

On April 25, 2021, at 04:57 a.m., during search and rescue operations with the participation of investigators and forensic experts of the Investigative Directorate for the Orenburg Region, the body of an employee was found in the place of the collapse. In the course of the forensic medical study, it was established that his death occurred as a result of mechanical asphyxia from compression of the chest and abdomen. The deceased had three young children as a dependent.

As part of the criminal case, the investigators examined the scene of the incident, seized the necessary documents to ensure safety regulations at the enterprise, questioned witnesses, appointed a number of examinations.
