Re: Russia - Woman Disappears Under Ice
you would think they would attach themselves to a rope so they could be pulled out if they didn't go straight down or come straight back up especially at night, there would be no chance of rescuing her if she went slightly off course |

Re: Russia - Woman Disappears Under Ice
That might explain the panic in the others, which happened as soon as she jumped in, as opposed to her not-resurfacing. Seemed pretty instant that as soon as she jumped in, there was instant panic. |

Re: Russia - Woman Disappears Under Ice
I remember the film scene in "The Omen" where the little hockey player who was marked for death by the evil one, winds up under the ice, as the people follow him along the clear ice, watching him as he drowns. But this one was a lot sadder. |

Re: Russia - Woman Disappears Under Ice
That's awful... for them and for her, she had to know immediately she was screwed. When I was 13, I had a near death experience where I fell into the ice. I was walking home with a buddy when we got the bright idea it would be cool to check out the ice on the river up close.... at night time ( ... I know.... #darwin . So I carefully walked down a slope that had like 6 inches (or 152 millimeters) of fresh snow. I didn't know there was ice under it, I slipped and slid right into the river. I managed to turn my body sideways, so only my right leg was completely submerged... but i'll never forget how cold that shit was and how strong the current was. I managed to pull myself out (my buddy ironically froze up). We barely talked on the way home, but I remember the first thing I said to him was "well... that sucked." Lol. At the time, I was so focused on how cold my leg was and hoping I wasn't going to end up in a Lieutenant Dan situation, that I didn't even realize how terrible that could've gone... my buddy could've watched me slide in and just be gone while I would've been swooped off, trapped under the ice, totally panicked until I drowned. But I made it home, took a hot shower, and never told my family about it until I was an adult. |

Re: Russia - Woman Disappears Under Ice
Ice bathing is quite popular in my country too, but I think no one here would ice bathe in a river. People here usually use a ladder to climb down/up.
