I saw a 1987 BMW3 series actually wrapped around a pole that did not catch fire in1992. The impact location was also the left doors. Strange, you would think BMW would reduce fires in 36 years. Maybe BMW hates Russians as much as they hate their USA customers (I own a 7 series)

Diesel engines does not catch fire in almost 99% of crashes. Maybe that was diesel?
