Re: Russia - Raging Fire Traps Man on His Balcony
firefighters were like, "yeah, ok, he's gotta be dead now, time to put out the fire" why didn't the use the ladder on the truck to try to rescue the guy if he was too afraid to jump? seems like they just waited for him to burn to death before they took action |

Re: Russia - Raging Fire Traps Man on His Balcony
Many netizens criticized the actions of firefighters, where a man was burned alive (died in the hospital) on the balcony of the third floor. The video shot yesterday by two young people who saw a burning man on a balcony. At first he stood, then squatted down, and his clothes lit up on him. At that time, a dozen meters from the house was a fire truck with a ladder that could not drive closer to the house because of the trees. Rescue attempts were carried out by firefighters from inside the apartment. Many suggested prosecuting the firefighters. The regional department of the Ministry of Emergencies presented their version of events. “The first fire engine drove up to the entrance of the house when there was no person on the balcony. Perhaps when the personnel went up to the third floor, this citizen went out onto the balcony. He opened the door to the balcony, there was an influx of oxygen, combustion intensified and increased, there was an outbreak, ”said a rescuer. The firefighter's that came through the porch did not know about the man on the balcony. According to a firefighter, the man was screaming that he lay on the floor of the balcony, this could help him stay alive. According to a source in the Ministry of Emergencies in another region, it is difficult for firefighters to find a place to use a ladder during fires in a dense residential area. This can be caused by cars, trees located near the house or buildings. To expand the ladder, you need a flat platform with a width of almost 7 m - the width of the truck plus 1.5 m for the stops on each side. The platform should be flat - modern safety systems do not allow to extend the ladder if the angle of inclination exceeds the permissible (about 16 degrees). Therefore, it is impossible to use the pavement for stops simultaneously with the carriageway. The expert suggested that the firefighters had little time to assess the situation, as fires in apartments, as a rule, do not last long. Calculations in most cases work “on their feet”, that is, they prefer to extinguish a fire from the entrance. For fires on the lower floors, firefighters have a three-leg ladder [a ladder designed for approximately the height of the second or third floor]. But if the crew had already entered the porch in full gear, and the person appeared on the balcony after that, then there might not be enough time to return the crew, remove the gear and do the rescue. Because of the too long response time in such cases, “life cubes” are rarely used - inflatable rescue modules, which take up to 15 minutes to deploy. In addition, according to the firefighters they are not very reliable: people jumping on them in some cases receive serious injuries, therefore, they are usually used in exceptional cases. |
