Freight trains make much more vibration that you can feel, but mostly as the train passes. I grew up near a railroad track, about 200 feet from it. This passenger train wouldn't make much vibration until it was almost on top of you. The pedestrian was probably alerted in the last seconds by the very loud air horn.
