The body of 32-year-old actress and model Humaira Asghar Ali was found in an advanced stage of decomposition in her apartment in Karachi on Tuesday, police said.

Humaira had not paid the rent on her apartment since 2024, prompting the landlord to get a court order to get the apartment vacated. Police and a bailiff arrived at the flat, but got no answer when they knocked on the door. They broke down the door, and found the body.

All the doors and windows, and the balcony, were locked from the inside, with no evidence of a break-in. Based on call records, the presence of rotting food, and social media inactivity, it is feasible Humaira had died sometime around October 2024, although this remains unconfirmed.

The police surgeon noted that there were no obvious signs of foul play, but cause of death was reserved until the receipt of the chemical analysis report of all samples. Humaira's parents refused to claim her body, with her father being quoted as saying, "We have cut off ties with her long ago. Do whatever you want with her body. We will not receive it."

Humaira had appeared in various Pakistani films and reality shows, and in 2023, received the National Women's Leadership Award in recognition for her services to the media and entertainment industry.

Earlier, police had said that Humaira's family had refused to claim her body. However, her brother, Naveed Asghar, has now arrived in Karachi to take custody of the remains.

Her family being nonchalant about her death, especially after they were told she seemed to be dead for almost 9 months is pretty fishy. Regardless, may she rest in peace.
