The spasm is caused by a conscious decision to fight the body's natural survival instinct. In that moment, his body is screaming at him to grab that noose and take that shit off before he passes out, but he knows if he does that.... they're probably going murder everyone he loves and then give him a worse death.

His is the normal reaction, so you can compare that to the videos where the people dont fight it at all and just hang, the instinct is still there, but they're just on a whole different level.

Hanging can basically kill you in two ways, by cutting off blood flow to the brain which will result in a slower death, or instantly, by breaking the neck.

The result of the hanging depends on a bunch of factors, but some are the size and type of the rope/ligature used, the position of the knot/rope, the height of the drop, etc. The vids where people seem conscious for a while is usually because some blood is still making it to the brain, but when its completely cutoff you'll pass out very quickly like we see here.

In some parts of the world, people often use scarfs because they think it will be less painful, but it usually just results in slower deaths because it doesn't cut off the blood flow like the type of rope we see here does.

I thought about this. I guess there are many factors, such as body weight, neck size, the type of ligature used etc.

One thing is certain though:one tends to lose consciousness within 20—30 secords.
