Right to Die? - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For Magenta, I don't think it's exactly what you want, but it's close. |

if we let an animal suffer its perceived as cruel and we could end up in prison, to force a human, and their family, to suffer the stress and turmoil of a terminal illness is beyond cruel when there are other options available.

Re: Right To Die: Suicide Tourist Craig Ewert's Assisted Death In Switzerland *Mild*
Thanks Firefly!! I've got a copy of the DVD on order now! As for the assisted suicide debate I think it is down to the individual - at the end of the day they are the ones suffering... One of my clients has Cerebral Palsy and a bunch of associated conditions... She can't do anything for herself but her mind is just fine. She is going for assisted suicide on her 30th birthday next year. The only problems her family are facing are, as usual, the threat of being arrested when they return to the UK. I do hate our laws here... Assisted suicide is a choice made by the individual and should be allowed if the decision is fully autonomous. It's DNR orders (do not resuscitate) I don't always agree with - they're often misused I find...

Just another interesting article contrasting assisted suicide and withdrawal of medical treatment... Diane Pretty loses case, while Miss B 'dies with dignity' - Crime, UK - The Independent |

Re: Right To Die: Suicide Tourist Craig Ewert's Assisted Death In Switzerland *Mild*
I would find so much comfort in knowing I had this as an option, as it is I assume one day that I will reach a state where I will end my life on my own terms. I would just like to know there was a proper way to do it with some dignity. Unfortunately, people always have to get arrested to pave the way, I can't think of a single advancement in human rights where people weren't persecuted for trying to make things better. As for the DNR I agree with you Magenta, and like the drug war creates a market for drug dealers to profit in, the absence of a strong decision in favor of assisted suicide and the DNR will continue to be abused. |

I had a relative who died a slow, painful, undignified death. It is wrong to not give these people options.
