I think he thought his brain was going to splatter on the sign behind him "the best of me" You can see his little 'horn' appear at the top of his head too on his way down and then the noise of the blood gushing from the roof of his mouth ...ewwwww. I think that he expected the acid to get to Bjork before he was even discovered ... he was probably hoping he would be able to wait for her in 'another' place. THe noise is not blood gushing from his mouth, it's him pissing more than likely. The gushing noise sounds like a fountain, which could be an arcing stream of piss.
