Recovery of Body of Tourist Who Fell to His Death From Thai Train
Not really gory, but pretty dumb A 45-year-old tourist died in Thailand on Tuesday after falling from a moving train. Oddly, sources differ as to whether he was from the Republic of Ireland, or New Zealand. The Thai-language sources say he was a Kiwi. [EDIT: Apparently he was born in New Zealand but had an Irish passport.] P.W. fell from the train in Kanchanaburi province, west of the capital Bangkok, as it passed a scenic view at low speed. Apparently, W. was trying to get a selfie out of the train door when he plummeted to his doom. The stupidity of tourists rarely know any bounds. |

Re: Recovery of Body of Tourist Who Fell to His Death From Thai Train
This route is known as the Death Railway and connects Thailand with Myanmar. Built mainly by prisoners of war taken by the Japanese, it is known for a section made famous in The Bridge on the River Kwai. There have been previous fatalities. In November 2014, a diplomat, A.L., a secretary to Bangkok's Greek embassy, was killed while travelling on the line. Apparently, when she was climbing back on the train, the strap of her bag got caught with the train door's knob, causing her to fall on the tracks and have her head crushed by the wheels. |

Hard to believe that a train that moves that slow could kill that many people. |

yes, it almost looks like the Durango and Silverton rail route. You can reach out and touch the rock faces and the mountain trees from your train car. And it's all steep cliffs. I also always wanted to go and see the "Bridge on the River Kwai" site. It would be a haunting place to visit. |
