I think what killed him was the "herding instinct". He saw his comrades quickly hurry away to his right, so he instinctually thought the danger was from being behind the vehicle. So, he figured it was time to hurry to the right as well. Another example of "herding instinct", you see a crowd rush quickly past you from one direction. One's instinct would not be to run towards the direction the crowd came from; instead, you would run in the same direction as the crowd. |
