My replies to people interjecting irrelevant politics are often angry and unforgiving. They often get deleted by mods, which I can understand. So I'm going to start trying a different approach. *sung in the tune of hot pocket jingle* OFF TOPIC  That wasn't so bad.

True enough. Europe has painted itself into a corner through its dependency on Russian oil. They can't shut it off without bringing a disaster upon themselves. They do cooperate with the sanctions in areas where they won't scar themselves economically. India (and of course, China) are silent in this matter, tacitly supporting the Russians. I suppose that it is in their economic/geopolitical interest to follow this line.

Yes, Independence Day would be an ON TOPIC line of discussion in this thread... political or not... because it has to do with the context of the video. Russian oil, India doing business with them despite sanctions, and anything else OTHER than the Indian Independence day, is not.

Technically correct, but have you noticed that numerous threads in the Death Sections get "derailed"in this manner and the mods don't care. It is only when it degenerates into name calling and other abuse (e.g., "trolling outside the Cooler") that they get involved. As long as the discussion remains civil, nobody really cares.

I care. There's enough interjected politics in unnecessary parts of life these days.I'm sure no one cares that I care... and that's fine. It's just exhausting to run into it in every thread. I do think the mods and Chris are starting to fix things though... slowly but surely.

As you note, there's just too much of it, in thread after thread, for the mods to do more than sanction the most egregious, incendiary comments. I am happy that Chris strengthened Rule 2 to forbid all sorts of racist and ethnic slurs, not just those against blacks. I am frankly fed up with people who refer to my wife as a "****" or other Asian slur. I have never reported insults directed against myself (I can handle that well enough on my own), but when family is involved it is a different matter.
