Re: Publicly Hacked to Death
Well no, clearly that isn't the case and there's more examples than we can possibly count both in modern times and throughout history that people will still commit crimes despite knowing what will happen if they're caught. Not sure why someone would try to defend this point.

Re: Publicly Hacked to Death
I've been to countries like this.. hell I was in Africa not that long ago and it was not a tourist destination where I went.. I've been to some really sketchy parts of the world. (Not Brazil... fuck that.) I'm not defending what that guy did.. he definitely didn't deserve that and even by standards over there that was way beyond the typical punishment. However... the value of livestock does have a very high value. It is not uncommon for men to trade X number of goats to a father to marry his daughter. Or chickens.. whatever the case may be. I'll give an example. When I was in Afghanistan a guy came up to our terp and talked a bunch and pointed to a female in our group... who is attractive for sure. He offered 23 goats and some number if chickens that I forget. We all laughed about it.. terp told us that was actually a very generous offer for that area. Crime didn't fit the punishment. The thief knew the stakes were high.. but probably didn't realize the guy was a psycho with a sword. |
