Police Shoot and Kill Escaped Prisoner

This is the terrifying moment an escaped prisoner believed to have set a home alight dies in hail of police gunfire after charging at officers with his arms raised.

J. P., 29, was killed after storming out of the home in Colorado Springs towards law enforcement in April.

Prosecutors said Thursday that the two police officers who shot at the suspect, Colton Graham and Thomas Walling, were justified when they shot at him during the confrontation.

Police were responding to a domestic disturbance at an apartment April 24 when they realized the suspect, J.P., was wanted for escaping the custody of the Colorado Department of Corrections.

The woman at the home, D. F., 57, said she had been choked and threatened with a knife.

Graham and Walling were joined by officer Ryan Levichi and Sergeant Patricia Turechek at the scene.

They were in marked police cars and in uniform and made repeated efforts to try and speak with P. before breaking down the door after hearing a lighter click behind the door and seeing smoke inside the home.

The officer's bodycam footage begins with police outside the home with an alarm sounding.

They then raise their guns as they try to open the door to the apartment. One officer kicks at the door as another stands guard.

Smoke then emerges from the door before it briefly closes. P. then runs at police yelling with his hands raised.

Police open fire and he is hit by a hail of bullets. He is then seen barefoot laying in the apartment corridor as an officer shouts: 'Show us your hands. Roll onto your stomach.'

One officer says: 'I'm going to pull him out.' He colleague replies: 'The knife is right there. Drag his foot.'

P. is told not to move as he is dragged out of the home. Police then enter the apartment to deal with the fire.

The officers broke down the door because P. refused to come out and they noticed smoke seeping out of the apartment.

He was shot when officers say he charged at them with his hands above his head.

Investigators say they found a butcher knife in the entry hall where the confrontation took place.

According to the district attorney’s office, the officers were justified in shooting P. because they believed he was going to attack them.

It is not known when P. escaped by local reports in 2018 say he was being sought on suspicion of menacing and attempted escape.

So that was a home invasion right and was definitely trying to burn the apartment down, then ya good but what were his crimes and did he have a weapon in hand? Not saying it’s completely non warranted but i guess we gotta depopulate somehow...........

They didn't have time to search for a weapon, and they weren't going to take their chances.

I'd say this particular shooting was justified. That's the problem with analyzing police conduct, or the lack thereof. Some cases are perfectly justified, and some are brutal to the max (read: Eric Garner in NYC). Most fall somewhere in between. But police brutality is not a myth conjured up by leftist pundits, it's a real thing and that's why all shootings must be analyzed by impartial civilians who aren't overly pro or anti-police. Weed out the right from the wrong.

What a waste of a life. All I can thing about is a paraplegic man looking at what he is doing in absolute envy that the fatass can still move his legs.
