Police Officer Fatally Shoots Machete Wielding Man in Arizona
New video shows the moment a man charged at a Coolidge police officer with a machete, prompting a deadly officer-involved shooting. The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says on Feb. 5, around 7:30 p.m., a Coolidge police officer was checking on a vehicle that was parked near Palo Verde Avenue and Arizona Boulevard. Body camera video shows the officer asking a woman questions about her shattered windshield. “Your husband did that?” he asked. Doorbell security video shows 54-year-old Francisco Canales Aguilar leaving his home with a machete tucked under his arm. As the officer was speaking with the woman, Aguilar pulled up in a separate vehicle. Video shows Aguilar start walking toward the two with the machete. “No, no, no, no,” the woman says, as the officer tells Aguilar to stop. “Sir, put it down! Put it down! Put it down!” the officer screams as Aguilar begins running toward him, swinging the machete and hitting it on the ground. The officer fires multiple shots as Aguilar falls. Another officer then arrives for backup as Aguilar is lying on the ground. “Where’s the knife at, bro?” “Where’s the knife at, right there?” the second officer asks. “He dropped it,” the first officer says, referencing the machete next to Aguilar. Firefighters were called to the scene and pronounced Aguilar dead. A PCSO spokesperson said Aguilar called a family member to say goodbye before the shooting. The spokesperson also said that Aguilar was going through a divorce. |

Re: Police Officer Fatally Shoots Machete Wielding Man in Arizona
Suicide by cop is such a cowardly, shitty way to take yourself out. That cop, not to mention your wife now gets to be traumatized for life. No chilequiles where you're headed, motherfucker. ![]() The fact that he called someone to say goodbye confirms he knew what he was about to do which just makes it worse. Enjoy hell.

Re: Police Officer Fatally Shoots Machete Wielding Man in Arizona
I'll grant that he was being aggressive, violent, and ignoring clear commands, but you're telling me that after so many centuries law enforcement has absolutely no other recourse in this type of situation other than lethal force. You cant shock the guy? Fire a pair of bolas around his ankles? Fire a net? Throw a rubber blanket? We have a spray meant specifically to incapacitate bears, but thats also out of the question. Only death |

Re: Police Officer Fatally Shoots Machete Wielding Man in Arizona
Taser shot, a good stream of pepper spray or many other possible ways to subdue an aggressive person. In the end bullets are cheap and save taxpayers money with the jail system, court costs etc. There’s also the possibility that had they shot him in the legs he would come back and sue the police department. I’m glad I don’t have a job where I have to make those kinds of decisions. |

Taser, pepper spray, a shot in the leg...other ways to deal with someone yielding a weapon. Good grief.
