A police officer, who was on-duty at an "Immediate Attention Command" police post, was abruptly attacked from behind by a man with a knife. The attacker injured the officer in the neck and head. After a struggle, the officer pulled out his service weapon and shot the attacker, who died from his wounds.

"In order to safeguard his life and physical well-being, and acting in self-defence, the officer used his service weapon, neutralizing the aggressor. The injured officer was subsequently transported to a medical facility for treatment," explained Brigadier General Giovanni Cristancho, Commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, in public statements.

The National Police announced that they are conducting the respective investigations to establish precisely the circumstances in which the attack occurred inside the police facilities.

Perp was an individual known in the neighborhood for frequently using psychoactive substances in nearby parks and he had been previously detained by authorities multiple times and taken to local protection centers due to his behavior.
