This is a situation where gun control would not have solved anything.
It is a clear case of people killing people and not guns killing people.
If only the other kid had had a gun, it wouldn't have happened.

I wonder if someone is going to be charged with criminal negligence. If you have kids in the house....lock up the gun and keep ammo separate. It's that simple. When I was a kid, my neighbor's kid shot his younger brother( 6 yrs old or something) with a hunting rifle he found loaded, in a cupboard. I remember his mother carrying the kid around, waiting for the ambulance. He was lucky and he survived. I don't remember what happened to the father though.

Gun culture in the US plays a huge role in any gun-related death.
And ... as others have mentioned, the idea of being a though being cool also matters a lot. If kids' role models are their older brothers who are "gangsta" then they are gonna emulate them.
