The 2nd Amendment is not about hunting and shooting for sport. It's about having a well-trained militia force with peer weapons in case a Putin decides to roll into town. So you're not stuck trying to hand out automatic rifles to untrained civilians while the tanks are rolling. Like we just saw in Ukraine.

The American Founders wanted normal people to be able to take home any weapons the enemy might have. Back then that was smooth bore muskets, cannons, and automatic puckle guns. Today it would mean full-auto rifles, Javelins, tanks, even SAM's. You think that's extreme because you don't understand it's not anti-government, it's pro-government. Even the professional army needs help and a backup plan sometimes. Again, like Ukraine. We see every day on this site how thin the veneer of civilization is over the sucking wound that is life.

I live in a place with intense gun control and the streets run blood red with gun violence every night. I wish we had the 2nd Amendment.

I just can’t get over her immediate suicide. She truly appears shocked when she shoots him then there’s not a bit of hesitation when she shoots herself. I’m leaning towards her picking up the gun in shock and accidentally shooting herself.

I know crazier things have happened, but no way do I buy the girl shooting herself as a "freak accident". That massive adrenaline spike coupled with the instant realization that she was in the worst kind of trouble imaginable, accident or no accident, the guilt, and without taking a second to think things through and talk herself out of it or even check if he was actually dead, quickly raising the gun to her head and pulling the trigger as an easy out of that fucked up situation makes total sense.

Obviously it's beyond stupid for them to have access to guns in the first place, shouldn't even need to be said, really.

Jesus Christ. My grandad kept a 12 gauge unlocked in his bedroom and I never touched it. You know why? He put the fear of god into me about it and explained that it wasn't a toy and had me shoot it. This huge failure is on the birth givers. As if the drum mag wasn't a huge red flag. Per usual the kids pay the price.

My thoughts exactly. "Sympathetic squeeze" is a well established phenomenon and I think you described it perfectly.

Shock, in general, makes people act in the wildest ways so I imagine a kid would do more erratic things than an adult.

Same here. My dad kept guns in the house. He took us shooting as soon as we were old enough and throughout our childhoods. That accomplished 2 things for us—it took away the mystique of the forbidden and showed us how powerful and deadly a gun was. We never had any desire to play with the guns because of this.
