At a guess, the edge of the road wouldn't let her front when up so she landed on the road such that her head was lined up for oncoming traffic.  |

My guess is the semi passed her while there was oncoming traffic, and did not give the bicycle the mandatory 1-meter clearance in that narrow travel lane. Handlebar impact with the side of the truck would flip the bike out to the right and drop the rider's head down into the path of a truck tire. Way too many motorists cut off cyclists during passes. That is why cyclists need to ride the center of the travel lane, as is their legal right.* She would be alive today if she did. * Except in Florida, where drivers are permitted to kill cyclists for sport. |
