I think that happens when you slam her head to the ground right after you pull her out of the water.

Yup, that did the trick. There was only a small amount of blood trickling out of her mouth when she was first pulled out of the water. Not uncommon for drowning victims, usually mixed with foam but that may have washed away in this case.
