Either way, it was a structure and not the ground like the description says. The only way to be more wrong would be to say he hit the floor.

 I'm surprised he was still in one piece after hitting it. I've seen motorcyclists that hit guard rails at half that speed and they looked like the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz after the flying monkeys got to him.

That's the kind of high performance chute I used to have. Unless a pro and aware of surroundings, shouldn't make a turn that close to the ground. Guy is right about seeming like a rookie mistake.
