It isn't surprising that onlookers tend to keep their distance from accident victims and not try to help them... the whole scene is surrealistic and disturbing to most people who do not normally see this kind of carnage. It is frightening to behold. What does get to me are the people who get their cameras right up in the victim's faces. If they can get this close to the victims without losing their lunches, they should attempt to offer any assistance they can, even if it is simply to hold a victim's hand to comfort them.
